Spherical Vibrations – Water Waves

Slide 1 von 5

Water Waves

We examine vibrations in two dimensions on the surfaces of water, glass and soap bubbles – all of which can only be understood by considering nodal lines.

The search for Omega, or the quantum vibration, in the classical media is a complete failure. However, in this station, Alice and Bob leave the one-dimensional world of vibrating strings, and start considering two-dimensional vibrations. They are looking for Omega, but only find the caretaker.

The vibrating glass plates, cups, and soap bubbles presented in this station are a fascinating and aesthetic visualization of two-dimensional vibrational patterns. At the same time, they will offer important clues on our subsequent search for Omega in the quantum reflections.
